Self Portrait 2

Intent: to recreate myself in a dark, whimsical light

Learned: that sampling colors already in your painting really help with blending and skin reflects other colors besides darkened skintones

Improvement: Needs some adjustment in the eye area and shadows

  1. I like that your piece has an abstract sort of feeling to it, where you blocked out each section and put extra detail in the eyes. I also like the color variant in the hair and the depiction of shadow in the skin color using complementary colors almost.
Some suggestions: The shadows in the nostril, in the mouth, and even where your hair covers your face, it could use some darknening. I think that would make the facial features pop out even more and give it more depth. It will look less flat too if you do that - adding darker shadows to define the nose, having more different darkness and lightness to the lips - like adding highlights and shadows and stuff.
    But overall sweet painting!
