Concept Art

Keeping the Conversation Going: Painting Raw and Burning Brain Cells

One way of doing Concept Art:

We watched Feng Zhu Tutorial in class and painted 2-4 concept art sketches.
Before next class please watch the end of this tutorial, and can watch 2 listed below.
Think/draw about a place you want to paint.  One of these?  Another?
Find a photograph of a real place that is similar (or not) to the place you want to paint.
We will examine perspective in class.

Episode 56 - MMORPG Landscapes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmff8bBCYW4&feature=relmfu

Watch from beginning to end.  Listen to what he has to say.

Watch what he does – including what he does but does not discuss.

The artist captures ideas in fast production speed.
His goal is 4-6 paintings in 2 hours:
2000 pixels wide each, 4 together on one  canvas, without layers.
The first 20 minutes on each is most important: he figure out location, color, mood and light.
He spends an additional 1.5 hours on each (6 hours total)  to add texture and clean up details.

Can Watch at Home:

Episode 44: Tannhauser Gate concept art tutorial emphasizing creating in a gestural way without preconceived ideas:

Episode 40:  Fantasy Landscape: you can scrub through to end and see comparison of 2 imagesinitial process, and the the one with final texture and detail added. Lots of other tutorials here and on YouTube.
Student gallery:  note subjects studied in his school.
