In the beginning, I wanted to make this very realistic and then the longer I worked on the bricks, the more I realized I wanted to make it playful and similar to a children's story book. Once I started to make everything else less detailed I decided I liked the contrast between the simple and the detailed so I kept the stone the way it was.
Looked like a lot of fun to do! The image does not take into consideration depth or light and shade, but it does have what you mention above, which makes for a nice image.
